Gift Shop Manager (casual)
Description: Responsible to the Operations Manager of Moose Jaw Art Museum Incorporated for managing and
running the museum store, and performing associated duties.
Hourly Wage: $20.00/hr
Duties and Responsibilities
• Organize and maintain shop. Have the store open Friday & Saturday, with the intention of opening during
the week once a volunteer base has been established.
• Report to the Operations Manager shop reconciliation at end of day and at month end.
• Responsible for cash, float, inventory and debit machine.
• Setting up store, display, and signage as well as planning for current and future events.
• Checking and fulfilling online orders and answering customer inquires
• Opening and closing procedures.
• Open the store for special occasions/events as approved by the Operations Manager & Director/Curator.
• Networking with companies to order stock for the store.
• Completing yearly inventory in January.
• Contact and connect with consigners to update store merchandise regularly; network with new consigners.
• Fill out consigner payment sheets regularly to pay consigners.
• Regularly update consigner book with new consigners and their information.
• Manage office supplies and make sure all required supplies that are available.
• Other duties as assigned by the Operations Manager.
When Plans To Expand The Gift Shop Hours Are Set, Duites Will Include:
• Recruiting volunteers for regular shifts and substitutes (coverage)
• Training volunteers and provide guidance in gift shop procedures and maintain effective communication (ie. in person and communication book).
• Keeping the operations manager, the educational coordinator, and the administrative assistant up to date on volunteer names, phone
numbers and procedures for filling in substitutions if gift shop manager is away.
The gift shop manager will have 10 hours a week to perform their duties. Five of these hours will be opening the store on Fridays and Saturdays from 11:45-4:45 including 15 minutes to open and 15 minutes to close for a total of 5 hours/day. The shop will run from 12-4:30 Fridays and Saturdays. The intention is to have the store open during the week, once a volunteer base is established. All store and administration duties are to be performed during the above hours.
Qualifications:
• High School diploma AND some years’ experience in retail and basic accounting or bookkeeping
• Experience in maintaining an inventory.
• Experience in cash handling and electronic transactions.
• Experience in basic accounting principles and practices.
• Experience in office administration
• Experience in using software for word processing, spreadsheets, presentations, databases, e-mail and internet browsing.
• Experience in a retail setting, including store staging and customer service.
• Demonstrated enthusiasm for MJM&AG exhibitions and programs and the ability to interact with the public in a positive and friendly manner.
