Culture Program Coordinator (Summer Student)

Hourly Wage: $16.00/hr

Anticipated Dates: May 5 to August 22, 2025

Tasks and Responsibilities

  • To promote art and culture programs to the youth of Moose Jaw through their participation in Summer Art & Culture Camp, regardless of financial limitations. 

  • To provide art education to children in the community through this program, including a blend of art activities such as drawing and painting, clay, cartooning, papier machè sculpture and a multi-cultural component. 

  • To help youth explore their own creativity by working with various art materials and through contact with visiting artists and Museum exhibits. Must enjoy working with children from all backgrounds including special needs and recent refugees.

  • To promote the importance of culture and cultural organizations to the Summer Art & Culture Camp students and their families through participation in the program.

  • To research and plan Summer Art & Culture Camp activities for children in the community, under the supervision of the Education Coordinator.

  • To prepare program activities, including arranging for the purchase of all necessary supplies.

  • To contact and provide presentation to referral organizations to identify children and teens, especially those at risk, to participate in the Summer Art & Culture Camps and Teen workshops.

  • To identify and contact appropriate resource people in the community to share their culture and/or art with program participants.

  • To become knowledgeable about the Moose Jaw Museum & Art Gallery (MJM&AG), its exhibitions and programs, in order to share this information with participants and the public, as necessary.

  • To conduct research, as necessary, for delivery of the program or to support exhibits at the MJM&AG.

  • To deliver the program, with assistance from the Education Coordinator, volunteers, and resource people, including set up and clean up, as required. 

  • Various other duties relating to these tasks and responsibilities, as assigned. 

This position is dependent on funding from Summer Student Programs. Individuals must be registered as a full-time student and intend to return to secondary or post-secondary school on a full-time basis in the next academic year; between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of the employment; legally entitled to work in Canada; have a valid Social Insurance Number; and be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred. Students with disabilities, Indigenous students, and students who are members of a visible minority are encouraged to apply.

Tasks and Responsibilities

  • To become knowledgeable about the Moose Jaw Museum & Art Gallery (MJM&AG), its exhibitions and programs, in order to share this information with participants and the public, as necessary.

  • Mornings - Culture Program Assistant Duties

    • To bring awareness of art and culture to the youth of Moose Jaw through their participation in Summer Art & Culture Camp, regardless of financial limitations. 

    • To provide art education to children in the community through this program, including a blend of art activities such as drawing and painting, clay, cartooning, papier machè sculpture and a multi-cultural component. 

    • To help youth explore their own creativity by working with various art materials and through contact with visiting artists and Museum exhibits.

    • To promote the importance of culture and cultural organizations to the Summer Art & Culture Camp students and their families through participation in the program. 

    • To assist with the delivery of the program, including setup and cleanup, as required, under the supervision of the Education Coordinator.

    • To assist with the contact to referral organizations to identify children and teens, especially those at risk, to participate in the Summer Art & Culture Camps and Teen workshops.

    • To assist with contacting appropriate resource people in the community to share their culture and/or art with program participants.

  • Afternoons - Shop Assistant Duties

    • Sales and record keeping, including appropriate customer service.

    • Keeping shelves stocked with merchandise for sale, including consigned items.

    • Housekeeping - dusting shelves, vacuuming floors, cleaning glass fixtures, etc.

    • Opening and closing on time, as scheduled.

    • Promotion and marketing activities, as assigned.

    • Understanding the mandate and policies of the Museum Shop.

    • Other related duties, as assigned.
