Join the MJMAG for our Opening Reception & Artist Talk with artist Leesa Streifler! This event will take place on Friday, September 27th at 7:00 pm at the Moose Jaw Museum and Art Gallery. Door will be open at 6:30pm. There will be a dance performance by Anastasia Ensigneeva at 8:15 pm which will be in response to the exhibition!

About the Exhibition:
Leesa Streifler: The Performance of Beingpresents a retrospective survey of the work of one of Canada’s leading feminist artists over the course of her 40-year career. The exhibition explores Streifler’s sustained interest in the representation, performance and politics of “Othered”, marginalized, and non-conforming bodies.

About the Dance Performance:
Join us in experiencing an interpretation of Leesa Striefler’s work in contemporary dance by Anastasia Evsigneeva, a multifaceted contemporary artist, dancer, and circus performer. In 2019, she earned her BA Honors in Dance from the Professional Program at the School of Contemporary Dancers in Winnipeg. Since June 2020, Anastasia has thrived under the artistic mentorship of Robin Poitras and Edward Poitras through New Dance Horizons’ (NDH), Artist in Residency Program. This transformative experience has deeply enriched Anastasia’s artistic perspective, enhancing her understanding of creation, performance, production, and presentation.

Join us at the MJMAG on May 31st at 7:00pm for the Opening Reception of our exhibition Dave Pelletier!

This exhibition features paintings by local Métis/Nêhiyawak/Nakota/Scottish artist, Dave Pelletier, that reflect his imaginings and interpretations of the Indigenous world within a Woodland Cree style or aesthetic.

Dave Pelletier was born in Balcarres, raised in Lebret and later moved to Moose Jaw Saskatchewan in 1968, which has been home ever since. His parents were William Pelletier of Lebret, and Corinne McArthur from the White Bear Reserve in Saskatchewan. Dave joined the military after high school, and returned back to Moose Jaw in 1977. In 1978, he trained at the Saskatchewan Technical Institute in Radio/TV Electronic Servicing and worked in that field for a couple of years. It was during that time; Dave became involved in Friendship Centres to eventually become Executive Director. It was his involvement with the Friendship Centres that inspired his interest in his own background and led him to seek out the legends and stories of his culture. From there, he took the initiative to start his own business in 2003 - Moosgaw Arts & Gifts in Moose Jaw and began to pursue his own ideas and interpretation of the Indigenous world in his paintings.

Join the MJMAG for our Opening Reception & Artist Talk with Jude Griebel! His exhibition titled Illuminated Collapse will be on display from February 2 – May 5, 2024. This Opening Reception & Artist Talk will take place on February 2nd at 7:30 pm; Doors open at 7:00 pm

The exhibition Jude Griebel: Illuminated Collapse presents a series of six detailed dioramas merging figure and ground to highlight human connection to the surrounding world. In these sculptures, unsettling scenes unfold on the surface of circular bases. Anatomies/landscapes are engaged in dramatic acts of self-consumption and destruction, projecting a metaphorical “End of Times” narrative. Mirroring our own world through their miniature elements, the works reflect on contemporary consumption, industrial development, and inherent environmental degradation. Griebel’s artworks combine scientific reality with fantasy and diverse cultural references, using personal symbolism and metaphor to register the concept of planetary collapse.

This exhibition will feature recent work by the members of the Moose Jaw Art Guild.

Our longest-running continual annual exhibition that brings together emerging and professional artists of the community to celebrate the practice of making art in the community.

This year’s theme, Sunflower Power, will feature work made by the Guild in 2022.

This is the 10th Annual Studio Tour where 8 artist studios will be open for visitors through the day. The Moose Jaw Museum & Art Gallery giftshop will highlight the work of artists Beth Crabb and Jazenta Saultier in front of the giftshop. They will have their work on display and for sale as well as do demonstrations of how they make their work.

New Dance Horizons/Rouge-gorge present live contemporary dance works including: Quadriga in the Rock Garden, THIS, RE-Tangled, and Eclipse. Collaboratively created by Edward Poitras and Robin Poitras in conjunction with Edward Poitras’ exhibition Revolution in the Rock Garden.

This is one of two performances in the Mae Wilson Theatre at 7:30pm, free admission.

This conversation will introduce Shantz’s work in the exhibition, Confluence, currently on display at MJM&AG the research on waterways that informs her work and the importance of considering water sustainability and security.
